Colts CB Charvarius Ward (concussion) out vs. Broncos

The Indianapolis Colts ruled cornerback Charvarius Ward (concussion) out for Sunday's home match-up against the Denver Broncos, according to coach Shane Steichen.
Ward played every snap in the Colts' 33-8 victory over Miami last Sunday. He shared game honors with safety Nick Cross with six tackles and four solo tackles. But the Colts placed him in concussion protocol on Wednesday, and the eight-year veteran and former member of the Kansas City Chiefs (2018-21) and San Francisco 49ers (2022-24) will miss a rare contest.
Moreover, the Colts are already without reserve corner Jaylon Jones (hamstring), who started in all 17 games last season.
Indianapolis held the Miami offense to 114 passing yards in the season opener.
Second-year cornerback Mekhi Blackmon, who came over from the Vikings last month, is expected to see more snaps behind veterans Kenny Moore II and Xavien Howard. Blackmon contributed three tackles in 22 snaps vs. Miami.
Ward, 29, has played in 103 games in his career, including all 17 regular season contests in 2022 and 2023. He earned a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs in 2020.
